Oh So Very Merry May

Thank goodness for April Showers, as they bring May Flowers. Or in this case, the beautiful May floral print dress. The classic style is fun, feminine and flirty; great for daytime (think lunch out, an easy dress to throw on and look pretty while out running errands because you never know who you’ll run into, do you?), and lovely for a casual evening out or wedding. The gorgeous, fresh cotton floral print from Spain (such a nice hand to it) in a lovely lavender periwinkle blue refreshing for spring and summer days and nights (or days that turn into nights, for that matter).

A few details about the dress:
The bodice is self-lined front and back.
Bodice has deep V-neck with bust darts for fit and stylized empire high waistline.
Bias cut flutter sleeves drape beautifully to just above the elbow.
Invisible back zipper closure.
Semi-fitted through waist and hip, in a gentle a-line to just above the knee with an invisible hand stitched hem.

Gorgeous lavender periwinkle blue floral print with highlights of fuchsia, white, and green. The lightweight cotton from Spain has such a lovely drape – not too heavy, not too light – perfect for spring and summer.
Made of 100% Cotton.
Fabric is pre-washed, pre-shrunk.

C’est Chic Paulette

Ooh la la, Paulette. She’s a bit of a classic throwback to the Audrey Hepburn 60’s, but ready to go for today. She’s a cool, calm and collected number in a perfect lightweight linen and diaphanous silk crepe de chine lining, so comfortable to wear. The colour is luminous, the spring green fabric and the citrus lining were so optimistically happy with and played so well with each other, I was sad to be finished them, they were such a pleasure to work with. I had great fun sourcing the neckline button. I love the exaggerated split collar, so chic! Great for evening, but also daytime, super easy to pair it with a jacket or cardigan on the not so hot days.

A few details about the dress:
Easy sheath style with French Darts that keep it easy and cool on warm summer days, quite generous in shape, loose fit
Finishes above the knee
Sleeveless
Wide, rolled split collar with decorative button detail
Invisible back zipper and slit
Made of a fine lightweight Italian Linen and Silk Crepe de Chine lining
Hand sewn invisible hem and hand-tacked lining (it’s my pleasure to do so :-))
This little number is dry clean only, it was the nicest way to preserve the drape and shape
Can be steam pressed (even by being hung for a few minutes in a steamy bathroom) and ironed between cleanings, or it’s linen – learn to love your wrinkles!

This dress reminds me of my Mom. I don’t remember her having one identical to this, but I certainly recollect seeing her all spiffied up in the 60’s going out to parties with Dad, looking so glamourous. I think we need that today, making life itself a special occasion. Do something with a sophisticated twist wearing this, even if it’s just going out and doing nothing, let it help you make your day (or evening) fabulous. Enjoy!

Good Morning, Gloria!

Say hello to Gloria – such a sassy, savvy little number. She’s got a great fit; slim yet with a little stretch that makes it very flattering, comfortable and forgiving without compromise. The little capped sleeves are a fun detail, as are the gathered sunburst waist detail and rolled collar. I’ve preshrunk the cotton/spandex stretch sateen and it’s a great lightweight body that has enough firmness to accentuate your curves. The fabric washes easily. Such a terrific and flattering fit to take you from day to night, whatever you want your adventure to be. Sure to be a new wardrobe classic.

The hand of this fabric was so wonderful to work with. The little bit of stretch worked so well and it the shape really took to the design. I love the colour and poppies and morning glories make me so cheery, two of my favourite flowers. The overall effect was so classic and new at the same time. The darn dress kept making me think of all kinds of sophisticated city adventures as I sewed it :-). Wonder where your daydreams will take you in it!

The Gina Dress

Meet Gina – the first dress in my Good Clothing Company line! She’s lovely in an easy sleeveless sheath style made in a fun retro-inspired fabric called Italian Bubblegum. Once I saw the fabric, I couldn’t resist; it’s so delightful. The style is reminiscent of the sixties, but contemporarily updated for today.

This dress was such a pleasure to make. I binge watched Fellini flicks while making this as the fabric was so in the spirit of the 50’s and 60’s. I truly loved working with the fabric; it’s of medium weight, so not too heavy, but keeps its shape well. Washes and dries like a dream and the texture and colours are so fun. I wish you as much fun wearing it as I had making it.
